Friends of the Peak Board Meeting

April 14, 2015

 

--Attendance: Susan Jarvis-Weber, Bob Bunch, Paul Mead, Carol Beckman, Brian Van Valkenburg, Jim Strub, Steve Bremner, Alex and Jenny Sullivan, Mark Freeland, guest Ken Jaray (Friends of Ruxton Canyon)

 

--Last month’s meeting minutes are approved

 

--Financials – Brian – “nothing in, very little out”

 

--Ken Jaray -- Ruxton Canyon

--Resident of Ruxton Canyon for 36 years
            --Friends of Ruxton Canyon formed to address vision for development, particularly the proposed purchase of the Jenkins property of 18 acres, to possibly build a parking lot
            --Would like to partner with FOTP to manage the Incline
            --Hiring two interns to get data for report in the Fall
            --How do they secure the 18 acres for open space or “Tiny Farm” agriculture? (Parking lot is not looked on as a good plan)


--June 20 20th anniversary party


            -- Food – options for caterers, decided on Buffalo Gals Great American Barbeque, $14/person + $25/hour for cook, Vote was taken and agreed upon.
            -- Music – Dan Santistevan would play acoustic guitar for $75 - $100—if no objections by tomorrow, agreed to go ahead and ask him to perform—Susan will send out a link to his music
            -- Time -- music start at 5:30 PM, dinner start at 5 PM

--Flyers, advertising

--One sheet flyer of projects, with 20th year anniversary prominent
            --Race packets flyers—Steve will check with PPRR
            --CMC, Catamount, etc., newsletters (Susan will check with Catamount to see if they will advertise our projects)
            --TOSC (already on their web page)

--Table sign, etc., for events

--Susan sent out possibilities—vertical banner, 72” by 36”, cost $80
            --Package is $141 for table cloth and runner, $36 for car magnets, $257 total, voted in favor

--Board members wear: jackets, no motion taken, tabled

--Postcard to lapsed members—Carol has examples that she emailed out, suggestions that the words are cut back to essentially “send us your email address, web site, like us on Facebook.”

--T-shirt—Carol suggested “Kelly Green” color, Message: 1995 – 2015-- 20 years of caring for Pikes Peak anniversary and logo-- voted on and approved
 
--Tool cleaning, May 2nd, 10 AM at Eric Swab’s house

--Ring the Peak-- northeast
            - Hike planned for May 16th with Mary Mourar, steward of the Hurricane Canyon Research Natural Area, also TOSC members Bill Koerner and Susan Davies—Paul will take care of planning route—idea is to get permission to drive up FR 330, the Manitou Reservoir Road and go in from there.

--Dave Dombach has opening for Susan to teach LNT at elementary school

--Brian: Mark is looking at an internship for this year; Susan’s internship ended
            --Jim: Asked about what’s going on with the SW side—Steve gave an update on Carol and his meeting yesterday with Susan Davies and Bill Koerner—Bill is going to meet with the mining PR person May 20th, and proposed meeting with Teller County and Cripple Creek leadership.

--Susan: Wants to use FOTP web page to address her LNT (under education)
