Board Meeting Minutes

--Attendance: Carol Beckman, Paul Mead, Jim Strub, Brian Van Valkenburg, Steve Bremner, Susan Jarvis-Weber

 

--March minutes approved, once Carol is removed from attending a TOSC meeting she didn’t attend

 

--Financial: T Rowe Price check for $500. Thanks Mike!

          --Do we charge for membership? No
          --Discussion of possibilities—don’t want to discourage people, but everything we do costs money
          --Movie night?

          --Annual filing with Colorado Sec of State completed

          --Planned projects
          --Photos from Incline Friends/FOTP workday

 

--Cog is saving 15 tickets for us on the 8 AM train, May 31st         
          --Work train goes up at 7 AM, where the tools will ride
          --Next day the work train will bring the tools down
          --Carol wants to have 15 seats filled

 

--Karma Tuesday with Bristol Brewery

          --Carol will contact Susan Davies about us doing one

 

--Next year is FOTP’s 20th year anniversary

          --Do we want to do anything special?
          --Ask Mary if she has any ideas
          --Special anniversary issue with anecdotes

--RMFI work on Barr Trail

          --Concern about RMFI taking on lots of work on Barr

 

--Leave no Trace—Susan is certified trainer

          --Susan can train us, but she can’t train the trainer
          --Opportunity to offer to crew leader community; our user base
          --Susan’s trainer can train us to be trainers
          --Susan can first offer 4-hour training session

 

--Severy Creek

          --Walk with TOSC, Jim, Paul, Carol, Bill Koerner
          --Bill Koerner talked about getting National Trail designation
          --Steve gave two copies of “Pathfinder” by Ron Strickland, founder of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail to Jim and Carol—idea is inspiration and ideas
          --Paul proposed emailing Frank and Allen to go on the hike

 

--Trail scouts

          --Gail Allen wants to be trail scout for Mt Esther, but we need to see if she can get vouchers for the PP toll road
          --Carol asked Brian and Paul if they want to take on organizing trail scouts—both demurred. Possibility raised for Bob Bunch
          --Susan volunteered to be trail scout for St Mary’s Falls

 

--Name tags—Susan did the research

          --Brown or green brass? Susan recommends green.

 

--Crew Leader Training feedback

--Saturday morning “death by Powerpoint” too long
--Too much time on restoration, not enough on maintenance

 

--Intemann Trail

          --Not as successful as predicted with rousing up volunteers
          --Mechanical builder is booked until the fall
          --Project is likely to take longer than this season

 

--Web site

          --Project descriptions updated by Carol—she asks for us to review
          --Do we need to explain how to use web site? Feedback is no
          --Check link to projects page from Incline Friends

 

--Pikes Peak Marathon—flyers in race packets? Carol is in contact

          --Barr Trail Mountain Race director contacted Carol
          --Flyers advertising work days in Incline Friends bulletin board

          --Jim mentioned Steve and he are going hiking up to the social trails off the Incline—he has a gentle route possibility

          --Brian said we had 29 volunteers for our Incline Friends/FOTP workday; but 40 said they were coming
          --First 7-bridges trail work day next Thursday

--Projects

          --July day with Incline Friends—not a lot of work because of contractor—recommend cancelling—UPDATE: Steve contacted Sarah and she agrees with cancelling July session—she still wants Sep workday to close social trails at top of the Incline
          --September with Incline Friends, Sarah suggested closing social trails at the top of the Incline
          --Red Rock Canyon Open Space, high school group; Carol is working on getting crew leaders
          --June 22nd, Iron Mountain—Carol asked Mike Cotter to help, Paul as planner
