Project on Elk Park Knoll Trail
The project on the Elk Park Knoll Trail is cancelled for this year. U.S. Forest Service must close the area on August 2, the day the project was scheduled. We plan to use the day to work on another trail off the Pikes Peak Highway, the Crags route to the summit, below Devil's Playground. Please join us.
For this project, we'll work to repair erosion and improve drainage along the Elk Park Knoll trail off the Pikes Peak Highway. Last year, volunteers built a rock wall to stabilize the trail across a gully. The work this year is much less extensive, but still needed. The hike in from the highway will be around 1 mile. Volunteers meet at 7:00 a.m. and will be back to their cars around 4 or 4:30, weather depending, as always.
Volunteers will meet at Red Rock open space and carpool from there to drive up the Pikes Peak Highway to the trailhead.
As with most trail projects, bring water, lunch, snacks, work gloves, sunscreen, sturdy footwear, rain gear, clothing layers, and anything else you would commonly bring on a hike.
