Projects on the Incline
Friends of the Peak is joining with Incline Friends to improve the area around the Incline. Some of the work will be on the Incline, but most of the work needed along the Incline will be done by a professional contractor hired by CS Parks and Rec. Much needed work around the Incline is closing and restoring social/rogue trails that have developed over the years and continue to be created. Barr Trail, much used by Incline climbers, is in constant need of help. Projects will focus on the needed social/rogue trail closure and restoration and some work on Barr Trail, with some work on the Incline. For the May project, work will be close to the trailhead. For September, although plans might change depending on how contract work progresses and what other needs around the Incline develop, the current plan is to close and restore social/rogue trails around the top of the Incline. CS Parks and Rec will truck the tools up, so volunteers will just need to walk themselves and personal gear, no tools. But it will be about a 3 mile hike in, then back down again.
Project dates are Saturdays, May 10 and September 13, and are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
We recommend that volunteers park in the free lot behind Tajine Alami, off Old Mans Trail, at the east side of Memorial Park. For the September project, the free shuttle should be running, and will bring volunteers as far as Iron Springs Chateau. It's a short, but uphill, walk from there to where to gather.
As with most trail projects, bring water, lunch, snacks, work gloves, sunscreen, sturdy footwear, rain gear, clothing layers, and anything else you would commonly bring on a hike.
