Mt. Esther Trail

This trail can be accessed from two trailheads.  One is the Crowe Gulch picnic area, on the Pikes Peak Highway.  To reach this trailhead, trail users must pay a toll, but can pay the lower fee for going only as far as North Slope.  Be sure to tell the person at the toll gate.  The trail from the Crowe Gulch picnic area, 754, continues on to Mount Esther and also connects to Ring the Peak.  Another access point is in Chipita Park.  Go up Picabo Road to Mountain Road and turn left to a small trailhead.  The trail from there goes through private property on a trail easement negotiated by Trails and Open Space Coalition.  With many switchbacks, it connects to trail 754 from Crowe Gulch.  Note that the Mount Esther trail is signed as hiking only at the trailhead on Mountain Road.

Friends of the Peak worked on the Mount Esther Trail and Crowe Gulch Trail in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004.  Volunteers helped design and build the reroute from the trailhead and repaired and improved the rest of the trail to the top of the ridge and on, to the utility road.  Friends of the Peak also rerouted the trail from the Crowe Gulch picnic area to move it above a wet area and repaired and improved the rest of the trail.
