Trail Between Horsethief Park
and Pancake Rocks
This section of the trail is complete only as far as Pancake Rocks. Portal 6 is the Horsethief Park trailhead on CO 67. Follow the Horsethief trail a little more than ½ mile to an intersection with the Ring the Peak Trail. Continue straight to the Pancake Rocks Trail. Trail users already on the Ring, coming from Crags, reach this intersection and turn left, then continue to the Pancake Rocks trail. Although this is an out and back hike at this point, Pancake Rocks are well worth the effort. From the Horsethief trailhead parking to Pancake Rocks is approximately 3.3 miles.
To continue counterclockwise and connect to the next existing part of the Ring, go west on the Horsethief Park Trail, 0.7 mile, out to the trailhead on CO 67. Then travel south along CO 67 to County 81 to Gold Camp Road to Forest Road 376. Check the driving directions to Portal 8 for details. Trail users can drive between the access points to avoid the southwest gap in the Ring. If hiking or biking along the driving route, be careful of motorized traffic, going at highway speeds on curving roads.
