Trail Between Forest Service Road 376 and Frosty Park
This 6.1 mile section of the trail follows an ATV road, Forest Service 379, into Elk Park and Deer Park, then swings around the south shoulder of Almagre Mountain and descends into Frosty Park. Taking off from this road are Forest Service Road 379.A to the summit of Almagre and a trail south along a ridge to Mt. Big Chief. FS 379 is a high clearance four wheel drive road.
To continue clockwise from this segment and connect to the next existing part of the Ring, go south on Forest Road 376 to Gold Camp Road to County 81 to CO 67 to the trailhead for Horsethief Park Trail. Follow the Horsethief Park Trail to the Ring. Check the driving directions to Portal 8 for details, and reverse the route. Trail users can drive between the access points to avoid the southwest gap in the Ring. If hiking or biking along the driving route, be careful of motorized traffic, going at highway speeds on curving roads.
