Good news for those on the go

By Steven Jennings

Through the generous monetary contributions of runners and the organizations that support them, the Triple Crown of Running and the Barr Trail Mountain Race, and the membership of FOTP the construction of toilet facilities at the A-frame on Barr Trail is progressing. Because of the support of these groups FOTP has enough money in the bank to pay for a significant portion of this project. This has been a long process which was first championed by Tim Burke a former member of the FOTP Board and has continued through the efforts of the board of directors. FOTP has been working with the Forest Service to facilitate the construction of a composting toilet on a site to be determined near the A-frame. The proposed structure would be similar to the composting toilet on Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. This facility would be solar operated. The waste would be dried in the toilet and carried out from the site by pack animals. Siting issues will be addressed this fall although no definite schedule has been determined after that. Keep posted to learn how this project is progressing.
