Pondering Pikes PeakBy Mary Burger There is so much going on right now it is hard to stay focused through the long list of good news. I find myself waiting for the bad news. But, for right now, while there are some things less than perfect. There does not seem to be any bad news in the making for Pikes Peak. The repair of the Highway is progressing. The City of Colorado Springs is considering endorsing the Master Plan. The USFS is considering the NEPA for the next installment of the Ring the Peak. The trail Dogs did a great job on Barr Trail this year, and FOTP constructed some great trail too. So, relax. Read all about the good news at your leisure. Come join in the fun at our annual meeting. And know that by being a part of Friends of the Peak, you are not just trying to do something good. You are accomplishing so much more than any of us could do alone. I know I am a Poly Anna. And, I know there are those who will take exception to the statement that all is well on Pikes Peak or anywhere else for that matter. But, in this crazy world of suicide bombers and deadly viruses, I take solace from the simple act of building a good sustainable trail. The work we do will be good for longer than we are alive. This year, I was joined by an unprecedented 85 other volunteers. We are growing. We are getting stronger. Thanks to you the FOTP volunteer and member, we are making the world a better place. |
