Report on the A Frame Toilet

The best tings in life may be free, but money sure greases the wheels. A lot of people love Pikes Peak, and show that love by offering donations to FOTP. We are planning on using that money soon. We have been working with the USDA Forest Service on the concept of installing a solar powered toilet facility at the A frame on Barr Trail. To date the biologist, hydrologist, and cultural analyst have all agreed the site is suitable. That is a lot of progress. The NEPA portion of the project should be finalized this winter.

Now, FOTP will buy the materials for the structure, and with the help of Carpenters Local 515, and the US Forest Service the actual building with be built this winter. The cost of materials is expected to exceed $10,000. By next spring, FOTP will contract a vendor who will empty the facility of its accumulations. That routine cost will also be assumed by FOTP. We have the money. Thanks to trail users, we should be able to accomplish this goal by June 2005.
